On the other front in our AfPakistan war, the mountain tribes of Waziristan and the valley tribes of Swat have been regularly attacking Pakistani 'Frontier Police' outposts due to the Pakistani Air Force bombing of their region.
The US has decided to pass the $7.5 billion dollar Kerry-Lugar 'aid bill' for Pakistan with all sorts of US oriented foreign policy strings attached. The Pakistanis are, for the most part, considering it an insult with words such as "Pakistan must "cease all support for extremist and terrorist groups," and have written a 'bill' of their own.

To implement the ideology of Pakistan purported by Qaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal, to promote an enhanced relationship of this nation with its ideology and for no ‘other’ purposes.
Be it enacted by General Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani and the Armed Forces of Pakistan as a Representation of the Will of the People of Pakistan.
SECTION 1: TITLE
This Act may be cited as the ‘The Sovereignty and Dignity of the People of Pakistan Act of 2009’.
SECTION 2: FINDINGS
We, the people of Pakistan, make the following findings:
(A)
(1) The people of Pakistan have a long history of being used by the Unites States as a pawn in its plans for world domination. It is clear to us now that the Pakistani interest is not well –served by the meddling of the United States in the affairs of our state.
(2) The people of Pakistan will never give up their sovereignty, their dignity and will not let their government sell the country for so called financial ‘aid’.
(3) Despite the fact that Pakistan has been a major ally of the U.S in the so called ‘war on terror’ , the U.S continues to kill hundreds of Pakistani citizens in drone attacks which are seen as a major onslaught on the sovereignty of the Pakistani nation and a violation of our international borders.
(4) The U.S support for terrorist activities inside Pakistan, compounded by the hostile Indian presence on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has led to the deaths of several thousand Pakistani civilians and members of the security forces of Pakistan over the past 8 years and any more of this outrage is unacceptable to the people of Pakistan.
(5) Despite the sacrifices and cooperation of the security forces of Pakistan, the United States continues to support and fund separatist movements in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), parts of the North West Frontier Province (NWFP) and Balochistan.
(6) The continued hostility of the United States towards the Armed Forces and Intelligence Agencies of Pakistan, as well as the spread of disinformation regarding the Nuclear Assets of Pakistan.
(9) The ultimate U.S goals of destroying Pakistan’s Nuclear Weapons and to exert complete control over the military institutions of Pakistan have now become very clear from the Kerry-Lugar Bill.

In Honduras, a deadline passes and the Brazilian embassy is still under siege with the legitimate president of Honduras Manuel Zelaya holed up inside. Ongoing negotiations are hung up over whether the rightful president will stay in his post until the upcoming elections. Victor Meza, president Zelaya's interior minister and head of his negotiating team said: "Errors in democracy should be corrected by more democracy, not by coups d'etat,"
You didn't think he was going to end up sleeping in a doorway like some of the folks his company wrote below-sub-subprime mortgage to, did you? The Bailout 'Pay Czar' wins one on Capitol Hill and the CEO of AIG will step down after returning bonuses received (but "Bailed-out AIG workers get to hold on to bonuses". He get's to take the big jump to RetirementLand with a 'Golden Parachute' though.
President Obama was in San Francisco yesterday speaking at a fund raiser for the Democrats in the upcoming local elections. Not just ANY Democratic supporter could attend though... It was a $34,000 a plate meal. Don't have those kind of bucks? You could have gotten a glimpse for JUST $500-$1,000 dollars
Meanwhile, due to lack of county/city facilities and massive funding cuts for the homeless just as more Californians find themselves 'out' than any time in history, the homeless shelter near Da' Buffalo's range has to charge indigents for meals
and the shelter, which is more correctly a 'service center' for most of the county's homeless, not a physical 'shelter', had people sleeping in their breezway during the recent Pacific tropical storm because the winter quarters they lease, the local National Guard armory, was not yet available.I wonder if the homeless tend towards voting Democratic? They are obviously not the constituency that Obama tailored his fundraising address to, but it begs the question... will he address their sometimes life-threatening issues at all?
Stand by... and keep 'hoping', while some, a growing percentage of the American socio-economic landscape, keep hoping for 'spare change'.

Juan Cole at Informed Comment directly states what the political tension is about:
China does not need to import much natural gas, in contrast to petroleum (it imports nearly 4 mn. barrels per day of oil), and still has not gotten the terms from Russia it is seeking. Putin's initial approach to China with regard to natural gas exports created fears in Europe, which is heavily dependent on Russian gas, that their supply might be reduced in favor of Beijing. WOW! $250 Dollars! (snicker) President Obama is ready to go with a new "Economic Stimulus" that would pay out to federal benefit recipients who have not received their Cost Of Living Adjustment raises.
Obama's proposal, announced Wednesday, calls for a one-time payment sometime next year. It would be equivalent to about 2% of the annual benefit for the average Social Security retiree, senior administration aides said, and would also go to Supplemental Security Income recipients, veterans, railroad retirees and government retirees. The White House estimated when the bill was enacted in February that it would create or save 3.5 million jobs, and administration economists estimate that it has saved or created 1 million positions so far. The Pakistani military has been on the offensive in tribal Waziristan so the tribally oriented Taliban have decided to simply go after Pakistani police with a number of targeted bombings and attacks. Four gunmen attacked police buildings in Lahore, a car bomb was set off in Kohat near another police station, and another bombing in Peshawar.

MONDAY, Jan. 26 (HealthDay News) -- Almost half of tested samples of commercial high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) contained mercury, which was also found in nearly a third of 55 popular brand-name food and beverage products where HFCS is the first- or second-highest labeled ingredient, according to two new U.S. studies.
HFCS has replaced sugar as the sweetener in many beverages and foods such as breads, cereals, breakfast bars, lunch meats, yogurts, soups and condiments. On average, Americans consume about 12 teaspoons per day of HFCS, but teens and other high consumers can take in 80 percent more HFCS than average.

The Senate Finance Committee 'extrudes' something resembling a real Health Care Bill and criticism is flying from all political quarters. Meanwhile Harry Reid and Rahm Emanuel are putting the pressure on the slackers amongst Democrats while Reid is still stumping for a 'Public Option'... that option would take 60 votes to override and right now, that's not likely. There MAY BE defections from the Republican party as well, Maine Senator Susan Collins. Send an email or call Reid ASAP, then expect some action within the month.
It's NOT just 'Obama's War'... The British are sending 500 more troops to the AfPakistan war, raising the total to 9500. Prime Minister Gordon Brown is sending them after stating that other NATO treaty nations send more as well and if it all pans out, it may reduce the number of US troops 'required' to be deployed when Obama gets around to making his deployment decision. "There are now more than 100,000 Western troops in the warzone -- most of them American. The United States has 65,000 troops there..." and Ex-UnoCal consultant, now apparently illegitimate after major election fraud "Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Tuesday he would welcome more American troops,". We're SURE he would...
Subprime performance, Subprime pay... The federal 'Pay Czar' is going to congress today in an attempt to stop AIG's bonus payout to the same people who broke their part of the US financial industry in the first place.

The British, who attempted to control Southern Iraq and the region around Kirkuk then pulled out, have been requested to return (100 naval 'trainers') by the Iraqi parliament to re-attempt controlling the oil fields that are being scavenged by the Iraq variant of 'pirates'.
Secretary of State Clinton is in Russia trying to gain support for sanctions on Iran over their PERFECTLY LEGAL nuclear program... Good Luck! The Russians would rather pen a recycle/return agreement with Iran. But the two superpowers have announced jointly that there will be a major reduction in 'strategic arms' (read nuclear weapons) between the two countries (and then the Russians can spend that military money helping us with our Af-Pakistan war... Sound cynical? Dang right! That alliance is most likely already in progress with supply routes and logistics supported by the Russian military infrastructure)
Speaking of Pakghanistan... With winter coming on there will be 13,000 more US soldiers...ostensibly 'support troops'... headed to Afghanistan no matter what the Obama administration decides regarding our presence in the country. Those troops are being sent to help secure the loooong supply routes through Usbekistan, Kyrgystan, and Kazakaitan. Then there will be 68,000 US soldiers in country.
The Senate Finance Committee should be getting ready to vote on the Health Care bill any minute now, and then on to the full senate where it will get shredded.
A suicide bomber hit a Pakistani military convoy passing through a market in the Swat valley of Pakistan leaving 41 dead. This means the Talib and the Pakistanis are back to 'getting their war on'. The ramp up in violence has been linked to a looming ground offensive in South Waziristan where air strikes continue. The ground offensive is supposed to begin this week but the Pakistanis have never had much luck getting more than 50 km into the region. Gain, winter is approaching in the region and the fighting will cease for a while.
The California legislature is going to hash out their water plan today and if implemented is expected to save 20% of the state's water usage by 2020. More in the commentary. More from the Fresno Bee.

The bill provides for new dams, repairs to old dams and the aqueduct system that most of California's agribusiness depends on to exist at all in it's current mono-cropping form.
Where Da' Buffalo grazes, the ag interests have chosen to grow two of the most water intensive crops in the world... Lettuce and Strawberries... In a region where there is (despite a looming Pacific typhoon driven storm due this evening) precious little water. Recommended reading, Cadillac Desert: The American West and Its Disappearing Water, by Marc Reisner.
Whether or not the water works bill will help California's agriculture industry, which to a great extent depends on water delivered from other states remains to be seen. Over the nearly hundred years since the state's hydrological development, with the help of federal water works and subsidies, California has singlehandedly stripped the Colorado River basin dry and in the process caused upstream-contaminated water to be delivered to Mexico despite treaties, nearly causing a war in the early 20th century. It's also worth noting the federal water subsidies (ten cents on the dollar) that the Central Valley farmers depend on for their economic survival are due to expire... soon. When the headlines in California's newspapers read "Federal Government Cutting Off Central Valley Agricultural Water" last year, the headline was not only disingenuous, but a harbinger of another looming economic disaster for the state.
The 'Governator' also just signed over 500 bills waiting, as leverage on the state legislature, for his signature. He also rejected a 200 or so pending legislative papers.
The Senate Finance Committee vote on the Health Care bill is due tomorrow, but probably won't occur until Wednesday.
The UN commission on the Afghanistan elections has come apart, with the one of the two Afghani delegates quitting, "...citing interference by foreigners.". "In announcing his resignation from the commission, Maulavi Mustafa Barakzai alleged that the three foreigners on the panel — one American, one Canadian and one Dutch national— were "making all decisions on their own" without consultation."
The US just passed a bill to 'assist' Pakistan.
The Pakistani government and people are rejecting it as an insult.

Dear Citizens of United States,
We Pakistanis are ordinary beings like you, having the same dreams, same needs, ambitions, emotions, reservations and same passion if not more for our country. We like you, to feel the same regret for wars, same grief for the world problems, same distress towards injustice, same hopes for a better tomorrow. We, like you, also fantasize having serene borders, comfortable homes for our children, fine education, some leisure, and a satisfied mind that what we are contributing to this country and the world at large today will benefit us and our future generations tomorrow. We fancy the feeling of living in sheer coziness of our homeland, away from overseas interventions and foreign-extremism in the exact same way as an average American desires.
We didn’t get our independence as a birthday present, we got it after much struggle and sacrifices (over 4 million lives were lost during the migration); after much strangling and many fatalities, we finally broke free of the quandary at the hands of British and Hindu rulers. After independence, we have shown remarkable progress in many areas despite having rulers who placed personal interests over national interests, who never really had to face the trauma of poverty, sickness, injustice, or leaving their loved ones behind to inhabit a land with no promises. Yet we did not give up and made a nation out of it. We did not fail as our current leaders try to put it, to solicit more and more aid to gratify their own greed. In our short history we have never been blessed with a true leader after our founder, and yet imagine our courage, we did not break down, we moved on and on. And we never really looked for shortcuts to this existence, we have paid plenitude.
We have now been presented with yet another aid package from your country which will be financed by American taxpayers money, which is the right of American citizens and on which we have got no claim. To your surprise neither do we need it to solve our problems. We do NOT need it. We have been seasoned to rely on our own resources, our own means; because at the end of the day this money will not be utilized for our poor nation it will land somewhere you cannot imagine its terminus to be. Period.

23 Dead, 100 wounded in Ramadi Blast; Election Law still in Doubt
Liz Sly reports from Baghdad on the three bombings that shook Ramadi, capital of al-Anbar Province, to its core on Sunday and left at least 26 dead and a hundred wounded. The first two bombings occurred outside the Governor's mansion where delegates from the Shiite-dominated government of PM Nuri al-Maliki were meeting with Sunni tribal leaders of the Awakening Council, which had turned against Sunni Muslim radicals and cooperated with US forces. Al-Zaman writing in Arabic says that the second bomb was timed to go off just as rescue workers arrived to deal with the victims of the first one, though another official said there were only 7 minutes between the blasts. A suicide bomber hit the hospital, perhaps timing his attack with the arrival of victims of the first two, though al-Zaman says that he initially tried to bring a truck bomb close to the hospital and was stopped by alert guards. He then came to the hospital wearing a suicide belt bomb and killed two persons when he detonated his payload. [In Full]
North Korea fired three missiles out to sea over the weekend, further increasing the atomic irritation factor on the Korean Peninsula leaving the Russians 'confused', and Secretary of State Clinton 'brushing it off', stating it will not hinder her work towards 'a nuclear free Korean Peninsula'.
In light of the commentary, one might consider the words of John Kay and Steppenwolf in this live video of a performance from 2004. A classic song that received ZERO airplay when it was released in the 60s and even to this day is ignored by commercial radio. But the Wolf is still prowling the collective dark subconscious of the American myth...

Senate approves apology to Natives, part two

WASHINGTON – For the second year in a row, the Senate has voted to apologize to Native Americans for historical injustices.
The apology, known as the Native American Apology Resolution, was attached to a defense appropriations bill, which the congressional body voted on Oct. 6.
The resolution extends a formal apology from the United States to tribal governments and Native American people nationwide. It is aimed at making amends for years of “ill-conceived policies” and acts of violence against Native Americans by U.S. citizens.
It also asks President Barack Obama to “acknowledge the wrongs of the United States against Indian tribes” in order to encourage healing.
The president was asked earlier this year by grassroots groups to apologize specifically for atrocities carried out on Indians who attended boarding schools, often forcibly.
Obama has not yet said if he will take such action. [In Full]

Meanwhile... He won't be getting any peace prizes for the war in Afghanistan about which there will be a woodshed meeting today with all the US government's players. There IS a possibility that we will allow for the fact that the Taliban is part of Afghanistan's society and have legitimate place there and in it's government, but for now the Obama administration "...has ruled out substantial troop reductions in Afghanistan."
The House has passed a 600 million dollar military appropriations bill WITH an amendment adding attacks on Gays to the list of Hate Crimes.
The 2010 census is coming up as there are charges that the vetting of census workers has been flawed regarding criminal background checks and other verifications. In other news, Kentucky recently experienced a lynching of a census worker who was claimed, in a note carved into the body, to be a 'Fed'.
A Census worker in Kentucky was found hanged from a tree near a Kentucky cemetery earlier this month, with the word "fed" inscribed on his chest. Rep. Michelle Bachman (R-Minn.) who has often shown to America and indeed the whole world the detriments to having a few screws missing from the right places, has been known to suggest that the Census survey was a precursor to internment camps and that consequently, she would not be filling out her Census forms. At the recent conservative How to Take Back America Conference, Rep. Bachman was asked by David Weigel of the Washington Independent if she had any response to the murder of the Kentucky Census worker, the usually opinionated (without reason) conservative recoiled a bit at the question and then in typical chicken hawk fashion, quickly turned to enter her limousine. For some observers, the lynching image, combined with a summer of Tea Parties founded on a state's rights tradition deeply rooted in the South makes it hard to rule out an antigovernment motive. With US officials reporting an uptick in homegrown radical activity, some of it violent, they say the link appears even more likely.
"This was such a symbolic and personal anger that I'm led to lean towards someone who has severe antigovernment feelings, perhaps someone seeking revenge," domestic terrorism expert Brian Levin told CNN's "AC360." [In Full]

Democracy Italian style. The Italian Supreme Court has ruled that Prime Minister Berlusconi, in the midst of 5 or 6 corruption cases, which FORMERLY according to Italian law, couldn't be prosecuted until the person left office, now can.
What's left of the Guantanamo detainees will be transferred to US prisons until hearings, but the US government is frantically trying to ship whomever is releasable back home, or wherever we can repatriate them, to avoid that.
Funny Guys! The Iranians are suggesting using nuclear fuel with a return clause... Use, recycle, and return. Russia is the country which already has a lock on that type of fuel transfer having done it with a number of other nations. Now the Iranians have asked the USA if they'd care to bid on the contract.
