In Egypt troops are still overseeing the demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir Square as tentative talks between Egyptian Vice President Omar Suleiman, the Muslim Brotherhood, student representatives and others take place. It's peaceful, but 'peaceful' doesn't remove 30 year ruling dictator Hosni Mubarak from power.
The US continues to work behind the scenes, some say to slow the wheels of change because the possibly soon to be president Suleiman was previously head of Egypt's intelligence apparatus and is the man in charge of America's Extraordinary Rendition and Torture program in Egypt and the US government NEEDS it's thugs willing to torture in order to win the war on people we consider 'terrorists'. The longer all this continues the less likely Egyptians are to see real change towards Big "D" Democracy.
In case you're wondering WHY someone would be a dictator for a large Western client state, Hosni Mubarak's net worth is estimated $40-$70 billion dollars. His "wealth building" program began when he was in the Egyptian Air Force.
Also notable... using semantics as crude as his torture techniques, Egyptian Vice President Suleiman Calls for Egyptians to 'Go Home'. This is what I always say to semi-stray dogs... "GO HOME!", and we KNOW what "Dog" is symbolic of in the vernacular of Muslim insults.
Next door to Egypt in Tunisia there has been an attack on a police station in the North of the country and it was burned. Three attackers were killed and the other day police shot two protesters leading to a renewal of street demonstrations.
Iran is holding a closed-door trial for the two men still held, and the one woman in absentia after being bailed out, for illegally entering the country in August 2009.
Congressman Dennis Kucinich has requested a visit with Bradley Manning, the person held incommunicado for months, twenty three hours a day in solitary, without charges. He allegedly supplied the video of a US helicopter gunship crew in Iraq gunning down a number of Iraqi civilians and a Reuters reporter. The footage was released to Wikileaks under the title "Collateral Murder". Manning is incarcerated uncharged and most knowledgeable sources say it would be impossible to prove that he was the leaker.
Kucinich, who as ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee asked the Pentagon to supply information about US troops already in Iran a few years ago and was duly stonewalled, undoubtedly has the clout for a visit with the captive. It IS an expected function for a congressman.
AOL has purchased Huffington Post... Sound weird? Weirder still, members of The Huffington Post crew will take over the content department at AOL. More on this trend in the commentary.

Anonymous hackers have defaced an Internet Security Specialist's Twitter page (Note: The style of defacement is perhaps sophomoric but these are not run-of-the-mill 'lefty' social activists.) in revenge for ostensibly 'outing' a couple of 'Anonymous' hackers with what appears to be already public information.
The internet affinity group "Anonymous" has claimed responsibility for committing a Distributed Denial of Services (dDos) attack on Paypal, Amazon.com, MasterCard, and others when those organizations adversely affected WikiLeaks ability, by denying them perfectly legal services, to collect donations and publicize their work after the WikiLeaks Cablegate release of massive amounts of State Department cables from US "diplomatic" (snicker) staff.
The anonymous group of 'hackers' has also claimed responsibility for recent attacks on the Egyptian communications infrastructure in support of the Tahrir Square protesters in Cairo Egypt among others (the Tunisian protests). Anonymous has also released thousands of emails from (soon to be former) Internet Security 'Expert' Aaron Barr, who is alleged to be involved in discussions with the FBI/DOJ sometime soon. Don't expect them to hire his services however.
The details on what prompted Anonymous' actions are Here with more at... Huffington Post... Now partnered with AOL.
