In The News: It's snowing north of the San Francisco Bay Area and at most places with higher elevations in the state of California. The wet, cold weather pattern is expected to last late into the week.

President Obama went to the Sunday meeting of the Democratic Caucus and cracked the whip about the Health Reform bill as floor battles over an anti-abortion amendment and the 'public option' are due to come up shortly.

In Afghanistan the recent operation that was touted as a 1,000 Marine offensive against the Taliban is stalled and the order has been issued to send the first wave of that 30,000 troop 'surge'[tm].

Meanwhile Hamid Karzai, the illegitimate president of that country says it's going to take 5 years before the Afghan army is ready to take over the nation's security. Translated as, "If the US leaves before then I, nor anyone else, will no be able to maintain a regime friendly to the extractive resources and pipeline industries."

Regarding those "Pipe(line) Dreams" and Hamid Karzai, former UnoCal consultant-turned-'president'-of-Afghanistan, here's something that turned up the other morning in Da Buffalo's Inbox.

"One obvious potential route south would be across Iran. However, this option is foreclosed for American companies because of U.S. sanctions legislation. The only other possible route option is across Afghanistan, which has its own unique challenges.

The territory across which the pipeline would extend is controlled by the Taliban, an Islamic movement that is not recognized as a government by most other nations. From the outset, we have made it clear that construction of our proposed pipeline cannot begin until a recognized government is in place that has the confidence of governments, lenders and our company.

Will the covertly US backed right wing secession movement in certain provinces be allowed to continue now that his mandate for the nation's leadership is overwhelming?

The Copenhagen Climate Conference starts today... President Obama will be there as well as California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

What WILL the US do with the Gitmo detainees? Send them to an Illinois State prison that went broke after it was built. The US is going to spend $145 million to turn it into a federal prison.
