A shaky truce has been reached between the Yemeni government and Houthi/tribal rebels in the North of the country, PERHAPS allowing the Yemeni government and the Saudis who have put troops over the border at times, to focus on 'al Qaeda' elements in the region... Assuming the truce holds.

The Senate has confirmed 27 presidential nominees and more may be confimed soon as the Republicans, spearheaded by senator Shelby, back off on their filibuster and stonewall, which in the process, risked recess appointments by the president.

The California Salmon season has been called off for the third year in a row as their numbers continue to decline and have reached a record low:
It's worse than we thought. There's no way in hell we have a season this year," said Zeke Grader, executive director of the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations, a commercial salmon fishing group. [In Full]

SURFS UP @ Mavericks, and it's ON for tomorrow!

Mavericks 2008
"The Mavericks Surf Contest, one of the world's biggest surfing events, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on Mavericks Beach in Princeton-by-the-Sea, 10 minutes north of Half Moon Bay.

Twenty-four of the world's hardiest and most highly skilled big-wave surfers will test their mettle against one of the most notoriously dangerous swells on the West Coast, along with jutting rocks, unpredictable currents, and swells predicted to produce waves as high as 50 feet all day long.

"It's looks like it's just going to be epic," said Mavericks Surf Ventures spokeswoman Katherine Clark." [In Full]
Meanwhile Sharks circle the 'epic':
HALF MOON BAY, Calif. (KCBS) -- One of the founders of the Mavericks surf contest has filed a lawsuit against the company that runs the event.

Jeff Clark is accusing Mavericks Surf Ventures of breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty and fraud.

Police: MA Man Stockpiled Weapons, Feared 'Armageddon'

"A Massachusetts technology consultant who feared martial law was imminent and was preparing for "Armageddon," according to police, has been charged with stockpiling weapons, and having explosive devices including tear gas and pepper ball canisters."

"Police said Girard also had military camouflage clothing, knives, handcuffs, bulletproof vests and helmets, night vision goggles, medicine, and six months' worth of food supplies. "We don't think he was preparing to attack the community, he was preparing for domestic and political turmoil," the police chief told the paper."

"At Girard's arraignment -- where he pleaded not guilty to the multiple weapons charge -- prosecutors said that Girard's wife, a psychiatrist.. ...said her husband had recently told her: "Don't talk to people, shoot them instead," and "It's fine to shoot people in the head because traitors deserve it."

"Girard's case is only the latest manifestation of what may be an increasing paranoid concern in some quarters about a government monopoly on firearms. In April 2009, a Pittsburgh man allegedly shot three police officers after warning that the Obama administration planned to institute a gun ban. And the Oath Keepers, a group that stokes fears about a government plan to confiscate weapons, has lately risen to prominence." [In Full]
