Today In World History, 1943, And A Word To The Students Of America: "To be a student and not a revolutionary is a contradiction."
The three – 22-year-old medical student Christoph Probst, 24-year-old Hans Scholl, also a medical student, and Hans’ 21-year-old sister Sophie -- were part of a small group of university students whose code name was The White Rose..."
Don't believe it? See: School gave kids laptops to spy on them at home. Follow up on a supposed federal investigation, with damning transcribed audio excerpts from the computer technician who installed the video spyware Here
"To be a student and not a revolutionary is a contradiction." --Salvador Allende, Democratically elected president of Chile, overthrown in 1973 by a US backed coup"Nothing is so unworthy of a civilized nation as allowing itself to be governed without opposition by an irresponsible clique that has yielded to base instinct. It is certain that today every honest American is ashamed of his government. Who among us has any conception of the dimensions of shame that will befall us
and our children when one day the veil has fallen from our eyes and the most horrible of crimes - crimes that infinitely outdistance every human measure - reach the light of day?
If the American people are already so corrupted and spiritually crushed that they do not raise a hand… if they abandon the will to take decisive action …if they are so devoid of all individuality, …turning into a spiritless and cowardly mass - then, yes, they deserve their downfall." --The German WWII Student Resistance, "White Rose", Leaflet #1, remixed.

"Loneliness, estrangement, isolation describe the vast distance between man and man today. These dominant tendencies cannot be overcome by better personnel management, nor by improved gadgets, but only when a love of man overcomes the idolatrous worship of things by man. We regard men as infinitely precious and possessed of unfulfilled capacities for reason, freedom, and love.
In affirming these principles we are aware of countering perhaps the dominant conceptions of man in the twentieth century: that he is a thing to be manipulated, and that he is inherently incapable of directing his own affairs.
We oppose the depersonalization that reduces human beings to the status of things -- if anything, the brutalities of the twentieth century teach that means and ends are intimately related, that vague appeals to "posterity" cannot justify the mutilations of the present." --The Port Huron Statement, Students For A Democratic Society

Martin Luther King Jr., Domestic Terrorist: This post is dedicated to Barack Obama
"In 2010 we must all reach the difficult conclusion that the presence of Barack Obama requires the absence of Dr. King and that the former is more a system's protective response to the latter than any kind of continuation."
"...I am in Birmingham because injustice is here."
By April of 1968 King had become a national pariah. Moderate civil rights leaders became troubled by his stances against wars of aggression in Vietnam and throughout the continent of Africa and Latin America.
The establishment press depicted him as inspiring 'fear' among White House and Justice Department officials for his continued work against structural inequality which they saw as leanings toward 'communism,' 'Leninism' and as being too friendly to the likes of Stokely Carmichael.
In 2010 we must all reach the difficult conclusion that the presence of Barack Obama requires the absence of Dr. King and that the former is more a system's protective response to the latter than any kind of continuation." --Jared Ball, Professor of communication studies, Morgan State University
If Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today, he wouldn't be talking about 'race', he'd be talking about poverty, and endless war.
Indeed, he was starting to do just that, discussing US IMPERIALISM in places like Vietnam, how it affected ALL Americans, and how the money was being spent on war, not ploughshares.... to the detriment of ALL Americans, and global society, for the benefit of a few.
The "Few" were NOT pleased. Dr. King was "Safe" for the White 'moderates' of America compared to Stokely Carmichael, SNCC, and the Black self defense groups springing up throughout the South threatening to take on the KKK and other racist organizatons. These groups consisted of returned/returning Black veterans of America's Imperial wars of the time (Korea and Vietnam), and they WERE deadly serious (Cf. Simon Wendt's "The Spirit and the Shotgun: Armed Resistance and the Struggle for Civil Rights").
Per Wikipedia:
"Many white southern segregationists vilified King; moreover, this speech ("Beyond Vietnam") soured his relationship with many members of the mainstream media. Life magazine called the speech "demagogic slander that sounded like a script for Radio Hanoi",[80] and The Washington Post declared that King had "diminished his usefulness to his cause, his country, his people."[84]""...his people"... How... RACIST and DIVISIVE.
Then, despite continual FBI surveillance (and harrassment), Reverend King was assassinated by an alleged 'lone gunman', James Earl Ray ("Ray testified that he did not shoot King to the House Select Committee on Assassinations" [src]), who King's family came to believe was NOT responsible for the shooting.
Today Da Buffalo wants to Re-Present an excerpt of a sermon at the Riverside Church on April 4, 1967 which has come to be called "Beyond Vietnam".
Black Forum records, a subsidiary of Berry Gordy's Motown put it on vinyl, and the Reverend's speech won a Grammy in 1970 for the "Best Spoken Word Recording".
Indeed, all one has to do is replace the references to Vietnam with the words "Iraq" and "Afghanistan" in the speech that follows and you can easily see that, for the most part, we HAVE NOT accomplished, or even (as a nation) attempted to achieve the goals spoken of here by Martin Luther King Jr.
Say AMEN!"Peace and Civil Rights don't mix they say, so this morning I speak to you on this issue because I am determined to take the Gospel seriously..."
.
.
.
"True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar... ...it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring."
Think on that while listening to the Reverend's sermon, as the Obama administration "bails out" the mortgage brokers and financial institutions allowing them to continue paying bonuses to their employees larger than most people in America, or on Earth, earn in their lifetimes, while leaving the mortgage holders, in many cases, homeless, and people who have lost their jobs in the current economic depression with no recourse but soup kitchens and poverty... ...or given an appropriate age, a job in the the US military, as the only available employer, for the Pentagon's DIRTY WARS in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other places not often mentioned in the US media.

Text of the entire sermon
Real Audio file (.ram) of the entire sermon (41:50 minutes) :
A BIG H/t to Sam Husseini, from whom I gleaned a number of links for this post.
Sam has the last word:
"There is one minor quibble I have with this sermon -- it ends with the lines"And nations will not rise up against nations, neither shall they study war anymore. And I don't know about you, I ain't gonna study war no more."But I think we do need to study war. We need to study war and all its destructiveness in excruciating detail." [src]

Master Plan or Screw Up? Georgia and U.S. Strategy - Counterpunch, And A Statement From The Georgia Peace Committee
H/t to OpEdNews Ossetia - The Politics of Naming and Blaming
The conflict in South Ossetia may be in standoff mode, but it certainly isn't over. It has been said repeatedly in reports that the conflict is deep rooted and complex.
Isn't everything?
The entire responsibility for this fratricidal war, for thousands of children, women and elderly dead people, for the inhabitants of South Ossetia and of Georgia falls exclusively on the current President, on the Parliament and on the Government of Georgia. The irresponsibility and the adventurism of the Saakashvili regime have no limits. The President of Georgia and his team, undoubtedly, are criminals and must be held responsible. --Georgia Peace Committee, Official Statement

Georgia and U.S. Strategy

By MIKE WHITNEY
The American-armed and trained Georgian army swarmed into South Ossetia last Thursday, killing an estimated 2,000 civilians, sending 40,000 South Ossetians fleeing over the Russian border, and destroying much of the capital, Tskhinvali. In Full @ Counterpunch Magazine
The attack was unprovoked and took place a full 24 hours before even ONE Russian soldier set foot in South Ossetia. Nevertheless, the vast majority of Americans still believe that the Russian army invaded Georgian territory first.
The BBC, AP, NPR, the New York Times and the rest of the establishment media have consistently and deliberately misled their readers into believing that the violence in South Ossetia was initiated by the Kremlin.
Let's be clear, it wasn't. In truth, there is NO dispute about the facts except among the people who rely the western press for their information.
Despite its steady loss of credibility, the corporate media continues to operate as the propaganda-arm of the Pentagon.

Declaration of the Georgian Peace Committee
Once more Georgia was launched into a situation of chaos and bloodshed. A new fratricidal war exploded with renewed strength on Georgian soil.
To our great disappointment, the alerts of the Georgian Peace Committee and of progressive personalities of Georgia on the pernicious character of the militarization of the country and on the danger of a pro-fascist and nationalist policy had no effect.
The authorities of Georgia once again organized a bloody war, feeling the support of some western countries and of regional and international organizations. It will take decades to cleanse the shame poured by the current holders of the power over the Georgian people.
The Georgian army--armed and trained by U.S. instructors and using also U.S. armaments--subjected the city of Tskhinvali to a barbaric destruction. The bombings killed Ossetian civilians, our brothers and sisters, children, women and elderly people. Over 2,000 inhabitants of Tskhinvali and of its surroundings died.
Hundreds of civilians of Georgian nationality also died, both in the conflict zone as well as on the entire territory of Georgia.
The Georgian Peace Committee expresses its deep condolences to the relatives and friends of those who have perished.
The Georgian Peace Committee, together with all the progressive parties and social movements of Georgia, will struggle to assure that the organizers of this monstrous genocide have a severe and legitimate punishment.
The Georgian Peace Committee declares and asks broad public opinion not to identify the current Georgian leadership with the people of Georgia, with the Georgian nation, and appeals to all to support the Georgian people in the struggle against the criminal regime of Saakashvili.
We appeal to all the political forces of Georgia, the social movements and the people of Georgia to unite in order to free the country from the Russian-phobic and pro-fascist anti popular regime of Saakashvili!

Today's US Election News - Zawahiri endorses McCain Plan For Iran; McCain seeks Endorsement of Catholic-Haters; 8% Percent of Pakistanis Back McCain
Does America believes in justice for the people of Iraq? An Open Response To Matthew Walleser’s Informed Comment Guest Editorial on Imperilled US Allies (Iraqi Collaborators)Nevertheless, this is too funny to let slide out of a false sense of Buffalo pride.
My perhaps unpublished 2nd try at commenting on Genocide follows.
Zawahiri endorses McCain Plan to Bomb Iran; McCain seeks Endorsement of Catholic-Haters; 8 Percent of Pakistanis Back McCain
Senator John McCain, who seeks endorsements from haters of Roman Catholics, is alleging that Hamas has "endorsed" Barack Obama. He darkly suggests that this means something.
It is a despicable, dirty campaign trick. Who do you think the Ku Klux Klan will be endorsing? And if the Grand Dragons plump for McCain, does that tell us anything about McCain except that he is pasty faced? You can't logically read off anything at all from an unsolicited endorsement.
Actually it occurred to me to ask who is endorsing McCain in the Muslim world.
Well, it turns out that al-Qaeda No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahiri has declared that he is actually on McCain's side in wanting to destroy Iran. Al-Zawahiri is hurt that McCain keeps confusing hyper-Sunni al-Qaeda with radical Shiism: "Ayman al-Zawahiri said al-Qaeda wants to see the destruction of Iran - a Shiite nation battling the terrorists . . . "The dispute between America and Iran is a genuine struggle, and the possibility of the US striking Iran is real," al-Zawahiri said. . ." Al-Zawahiri hopes that the US struggle with Iran will destroy the latter and weaken the former, putting al-Qaeda in a position to administer the coup de grace.
In essence, al-Zawahiri is endorsing McCain's plan to "bomb, bomb, bomb/ bomb, bomb Iran."
Then, it turns out that 8 percent of Pakistanis support McCain. 30 percent support Hillary Clinton, and she leads in this Muslim country over Obama (13%). But surely it is Pakistani liberals who are favoring Hillary, the sort people who supported Benazir Bhutto.
So which Pakistanis are supporting McCain?
Presumably the conservative Muslims who can't accept the leadership of a woman....
Then, Professor Cole goes on to cover the background of some of John McCain's more 'ardent' U.S. supporters:
But lets consider the people from whom McCain has actively sought an endorsement. Many of them seem to engage in a lot of hate speech against Catholics, Muslims and others.
John McCain's spiritual guides:
John Hagee, whose endorsement John McCain actively sought, compares the Roman Catholic Church to Hitler and depicts it as drinking the blood of the Jews through history:
John McCain praised Rod Parsely as a spiritual guide; he is caught on camera below:
Parseley accuses the federal government of enabling a genocide against African-Americans.
That's where I attempted to comment, on the casual dismissal of the charge of genocide against African Americans, no matter WHAT the accuser's political background.
I second anonymous' comment in regard to Parsley's statement about Planned Parenthood & Margaret Sanger AND I also am here to say the genocide continues, with more than 40% of male African Americans having been incarcerated in their lives (over 90% of California's prison population is African American and Latino), chemical warfare on their communities in the form of Heroin and Crack Cocaine, much of it imported into the US over the years with the witting or unwitting (I'd be glad to state which I think, but one post on this has already been 'moderated') assistance of the US military and CIA... cf. "The French Connection" Heroin pipeline from the "Golden Triangle" of SE Asia to Marseilles France with the PUBLICLY KNOWN assistance of US Special Forces and the CIA, to the US communities of color in the sixties.
Who would believe that it ever even slowed down since then... and now, the dismemberment of their communities en masse... cf. New Orleans Katrina "reconstruction" (gentrification) and the mass forced relocation of the people who live on 'Hurricane Alley" along the Mississippi coast.
Pardon my analysis...
...but sometime I think we're all actors in an American B Movie
...and we would have much rather had John Wayne...
Y' All know darn well we would have rather had John Wayne than any of the cast of blindly US policy supporting characters currently feeling 'presidential'.

Enquiring Minds: Where are the Iraqis in the Iraq War? - Ramzy Baroud, Atlantic FreePress
from Atlantic Free Press - Hard Truths for Hard Times
by Ramzy Baroud
March 31 2008
Ramzy Baroud (www.ramzybaroud.net) is an author and editor of PalestineChronicle.com.

— the cost to the Iraqi people themselves.
Through all the special coverage and exclusive reports, very little is said about Iraqi casualties, who are either completely overlooked or hastily mentioned and whose numbers can only be guesstimated. Also conveniently ignored are the millions injured, internally and externally displaced, the victims of rape and kidnappings who will carry physical and psychological scars for the rest of their lives.
We find ourselves stuck in a hopeless paradigm, where it feels necessary to empathise with the sensibilities of the aggressor so as not to sound unpatriotic , while remaining blind to the untold anguish of the victims.
Some actually feel the need to go so far as to blame the Iraqis for their own misfortune.
Both Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have expressed their wish for Iraqis to take responsibility for the situation in their country, with the former saying, we cannot win their civil war. There is no military solution.
It would have been helpful if Clinton had reached her astute conclusion before she voted for the Senate's 2002 resolution authorising President Bush to attack Iraq.
For the sake of argument, let's overlook both Clinton's and Obama's repeated assertions that all options, including military ones, are on the table regarding how to deal with Iran's alleged ambition to acquire nuclear weapons.
But to go so far as blaming the ongoing war on the Iraqis' lack of accountability is a new low for these antiwar candidates...
