A Synopsis Of This Morning's News...
H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.
«o» Rush Limbaugh still spews and there's one less of "Us" on the air. The Current-TV network has sacked Keith Olbermann after a year long contentious relationship. Production values and the broadcaster's lowballed tech support among other things are going to be discussed with David Letterman on the Tonight Show... Tonight.
«o» Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is in the Middle East trying to whip up support at the "Friends of Syria" meeting for more destabilization in Syria. She says the US will supply communications equipment and 'humanitarian aid' to the Turkish based opposition who DO NOT like the new, more democratic constitution, as they were hoping to take power and usurp the reins of a more authoritarian state. The Saudis just want to give the rebels guns... The US supplies almost every weapon the Saudis own.
It's also notable this is where the West got directly involved in the first place last year with a pirate broadcast station operated IN SYRIA specifically intended to broadcast anti-government information and instructions to our CIA fighters who were already flocking to Syria from Libya.
«o» In Myanmar... Burma... after fifty years of totalitarian rule elections are being held for 44 seats. The followers of Aung San Suu Kyi, whose been in jail or under house arrest for the last 30 years or so took quite a few of those seats but not enough to control the parliamentary government under military rule.
Let it be noted that just because Suu Kyi and her followers have been suppressed for all those years doesn't mean they're angels: "Wall Street Proxy Aung San Suu Kyi's Ascension to Power (West prepares rhetorical grounds for unrest in Myanmar should Suu Kyi lose elections)"
«o» In Pakistan all three of Osama bin-Laden's wives have been convicted, along with two daughters convicted earlier, of immigration violations. They have been fined the equivalent of $140.00 (USD) and will serve 45 days in jail or under house arrest. THey will most likely be deported to Saudi Arabia or Yemen after serving their sentences.
«o» Canada is planning to take their penny out of circulation due to the simple fact it costs more to make ($0.016 manufacturing cost) and handle them than it's worth.
In OTHER News:
NATO's "Active Endeavour" and Drug Trafficking [Voltaire Network]At the onset of the war in Afghanistan, THAT indirect suppression of the crops only made a bunch of opium growers (Mostly our buddies in the Northern Alliance) rich. It's STUPID to think the demand goes away when one constricts the supply.
"NATO is engaged in combating terrorism in Afghanistan (with a UN mandate) and in the Mediterranean (without UN mandate). These operations include tracking down terrorist financing and therefore drug trafficking as well. Yet, Afghanistan has become the largest producer of heroin and the drug is delivered to Western Europe via the Mediterranean, of which NATO has never seized a single gram. According to Oriental Review journal, the facts contradict the discourse, concluding that NATO itself is responsible for organizing and securing the drug trafficking." [An Analysis]
Crop suppression or any other thing they do only makes SOMEONE in the chain of supply rich.

You can't resolve addiction problems by cutting off the source. Even if you completely eliminated the substance from the face of the planet, the addict would just turn to something else.
Opium smuggling isn't the problem... ADDICTION IS the problem. A social, psychological and medical problem that cannot be solved with guns, wars or police.
And remember... Capitalism has a gun at your head every moment you're alive:
