In a stunning break with First Amendment policy, House Republicans directed Capitol Hill police to detain a highly regarded documentary crew that was attempting to film a Wednesday hearing on a controversial natural gas procurement practice (commonly referred to as 'Fracking'...) National Breast Cancer Awareness month (NBCAM) was started by (Astra)Zeneca as an effort to detect breast cancer in their female employees sooner (because their accountants determined that it would cost less for the company that way). They have kept breast cancer research efforts focused on said early detection while limiting discussions about the environmental toxins that cause cancer.Meanwhile, in Ontario Canada, a university professor states the obvious about ignorance, and produces a study to back it up:
According to the Toxic Links Coalition of the Bay Area, AstraZeneca profits by first producing many of the toxins implicated in the breast cancer epidemic and then by selling the drugs used to treat the disease.
To clarify, in addition to sponsoring NBCAM, AstraZeneca is the manufacturer of the world’s best selling cancer drug (Nolvadex, or tamoxifen citrate, with sales of $470 million per year) … and does a $300 million annual business in the carcinogenic herbicide actochlor. At one point, the corporation was the third largest producer of pesticides in the U.S.
Thus, AstraZeneca has profited from the entire cancer cycle from cause to detection to treatment. [Discussion thread on the topic]

Intelligence Study Links Low I.Q. To Prejudice, Racism, Conservatism
By Rebecca Searles, 02/1/2012
Are racists dumb? Do conservatives tend to be less intelligent than liberals? A provocative new study from Brock University in Ontario suggests the answer to both questions may be a qualified yes.
The study, published in Psychological Science, showed that people who score low on I.Q. tests in childhood are more likely to develop prejudiced beliefs and socially conservative politics in adulthood.
I.Q., or intelligence quotient, is a score determined by standardized tests, but whether the tests truly reveal intelligence remains a topic of hot debate among psychologists.
Dr. Gordon Hodson, a professor of psychology at the university and the study’s lead author, said the finding represented evidence of a vicious cycle: People of low intelligence gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, which stress resistance to change and, in turn, prejudice, he told LiveScience.
Why might less intelligent people be drawn to conservative ideologies? Because such ideologies feature “structure and order” that make it easier to comprehend a complicated world, Dodson said. “Unfortunately, many of these features can also contribute to prejudice,” he added. [In Full]
