» The good news is we weren't attacked on 9/11. There were three or four security situations on aircraft including one plane dogged by F-16s all the way from the West Coast to Washington D.C.

» In Libya, NATO is bombing the outskirts of Sirte and Bani Walid, the cities guessed by the rebels and NATO to be where Muammar al-Gadaffi may be hiding while the fighting closer in is fierce with the rebels making no known headway. HOWEVER, one of Muammar al-Gadaffi's sons, saif al-gaddafi, has apparently taken refuge in Niger leaving his father and his older brother leading the Libyan army in resistance to the NATO fronted CIA fighter staffed invading army.

» The US is continuing it's attacks on civilians in in the Pakistani Autonomous Area of Waziristan with three killed in the most recent raids.

On that note have I ever mentioned "How to get apparently innocent people REALLY pissed off?":
"...for every probable insurgent actually detained for any length of time and questioned, nine apparently innocent Afghans and their families get really pissed off at Western forces and their own government." [Details]
Note: The author of the above article returned from a deployment with the ISAF Operational Mentoring and Liaison Team to Kandahar Province, Afghanistan in 2009 (and he's obviously not happy about what he's seeing now...)

» The Tea Party is holding a presidential debate this evening in Tampa Fla. It will be covered by NBCNews.

» There has been an explosion at a nuclear waste disposal furnace at a "Nothing can go wrong" nuclear power plant in the South of France along the Mediterranean coast. No word on radioactive leakage or contamination yet.

» A truck bombing in Afghanistan has wounded seventy seven Americans and killed two Afghanis at the gate of a military base less than one hundred miles from Kabul over the weekend.

Maybe they're angry because our presence and attempted destruction of their society has turned their women to beggars?

Meanwhile, in Iraq... The US media doesn't like to mention his name... "Muqtada al-Sadr":
Iraq cleric to followers: Stop attacking US troops

An anti-American cleric is urging his followers to stop attacking U.S. troops in Iraq so that their withdrawal from the country isn't slowed down, a call meant to ramp up pressure on Baghdad's political leaders who are considering asking some American forces to stay. [In Full]
Note: They are disciplined, and they will stop, and if the U.S. doesn't get out by the end of December, just as surely as they instantly stop on Muqtada al-Sadr's orders, all holy hell with break loose.

Remember... Because the Iraqi People sure the F*CK DO.

95% of all "war on terror" casualties to date are Iraqi civilians.

Drilling could add 1 million jobs: Oil-funded study

Wed Sep 7, 2011
* More oil, gas drilling could create 1.4 mln jobs - study
* Development could yield $800 bln in government revenue
* Key policies in study face uphill political battle
By Ayesha Rascoe

WASHINGTON, Sept 7 (Reuters) - The United States could create more than 1 million jobs by 2030 by expanding offshore drilling, limiting federal regulation of shale gas development and quickly approving a Canadian oil sands pipeline, according to a study commissioned by an oil industry group. The study's bottom line would depend on some major policy shifts by President Barack Obama and Congress, and comes ahead of a key speech by Obama on his plan to boost U.S. employment as the country struggles to regain its economic footing. The study was conducted by consulting firm Wood Mackenzie, and paid for by the American Petroleum Institute, and the findings were released on Wednesday. The consultants found that 1.4 million new jobs could be created through more oil and natural gas development. [More @ Reuters]

Global stocks hit hard by Greek worries

LONDON (Reuters) - World shares tumbled nearly 2 percent on Monday with European equities at 26-month lows, down more than 20 percent this year, as investors worried Greece would default amid signs of rifts among euro zone policymakers... [In Full]
While in America...
If you came up with a bumper sticker that pulls together the platform of this year’s crop of Republican presidential candidates, it would have to be:
Repeal the 20th century. Vote GOP.
The magical world of voodoo ‘economists’

By Steven Pearlstein

September 10 2011

The GOP wants to repeal the 20th century, writes Steven Pearlstein: "Repeal the 20th century. Vote GOP. It’s not just the 21st century they want to turn the clock back on -- health-care reform, global warming and the financial regulations passed in the wake of the recent financial crises and accounting scandals.

These folks are actually talking about repealing the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act and the Environmental Protection Agency, created in 1970s. They’re talking about abolishing Medicare and Medicaid, which passed in the 1960s, and Social Security, created in the 1930s.

They reject as thoroughly discredited all of Keynesian economics, including the efficacy of fiscal stimulus, preferring the budget-balancing economic policies that turned the 1929 stock market crash into the Great Depression.

They give the strong impression they wouldn’t mind abolishing the Federal Reserve and putting the country back on the gold standard." [WonkBook @ the WaPo]
