In The News:
Thanks this morning to ChrisM, my MP3Angel, for supplying audio files of the news and commentary.

Due to time constraints there will be no text news synopsis this morning...

However, there IS some "Alt-News" I lashed together yesterday evening:

Let it be duly noted that, in America, health care reform (especially any hope for 'Medicare For All') depends on the whims of the defense industry, and they ARE putting the pressure on:
"....The revenue for more health care exists in the form of defense expenditures, which have doubled since 9/11. The billions needed for reforming health will likely come, in one way or another, from cuts in defense spending. Personnel reductions will be hard to make because of the burdens that Iraq and Afghanistan deployments place on U.S. forces. Fewer and fewer aircraft and ships will be bought. There will also be less training and more restrictions on operations with and for allies. America has a powerful military that will take a while to unravel, but unravel it will. The nation’s defense budget is about to tangle with a really dangerous adversary." ~ Harvey Sapolsky, "The Enemy the Pentagon Should Fear Most: Health Care", National Defense Magazine [In Full]

Speaking of genocide, and indigenous Americans:
Pine Ridge Reservation HousingUN Rapporteur: Pine Ridge (Reservation) Housing Worst in US

by Brenda Norrell

Overcrowding in housing on Pine Ridge Indian land in South Dakota was described as the worst viewed by the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Adequate Housing Raquel Rolnik, during a tour of US housing.

The lack of fresh food and the lack of public transportation was also included in the report on Pine Ridge.

"During the mission, the Special Rapporteur observed many families living in subsidized housing units in conditions of severe overcrowding. This was particularly the case amongst immigrant families in Los Angeles, and most strikingly on Pine Ridge Native American Reservation, where it was described as commonplace to have three to four families living in a three-bedroom house. The conditions in the houses on the Reservation were the worst seen by the Special Rapporteur during her mission... In Full

Finally, a thought for the day: "The earth is not dying, it is being killed, and those who are killing it have names and addresses." --U. Utah Phillips, folksinger and old Wob
