The NEW WAR is upon us as hackers attack various sites and companies responsible for the harassment of WikiLeaks... MasterCard/Visa's site was shut down by a targeted DNS attack, the Swiss bank that pulled WikiLeaks Account was attacked. The hacker armies called "Anonymous", and "4Chan", known for attacks on MPAA and movie anti-pirating sites are now operating under the Ageis of "Operation:Payback". They are currently not attacking the customers of the sites, just the companies. Will the credit card companies get their servers taken offline for Xmas shopping?
The hackers have also gone after Amazon.com for refusing Wikileaks use of their servers because "They don't own the documents" (Juan Cole on that piece of BS), and also PayPal... which has been a redundant uselessness ever since it decided to no longer allow the mailing of cash for deposit to users accounts. Their only unique function... allowing non-credit card users to shop online.
There has been one arrest (a 16-year-old) by Dutch authorities so far as the attacks continue.
Speaking of Christmas, and shopping, the U.S. Homeland Security apparatus wants your parking spot.

Congress goes to work on the DREAM Act, a plan to allow illegally immigrated youths raised in America to become hired killers in America's Imperial Army in return for citizenship.
The House also passed the continuing resolution funding the US government at 2009 levels.
HOWEVER, in the process, they also attempt to circumvent the US criminal court system... The continuation carries a rider disallowing ANY PAYMENT for the transportation or housing of Guantanamo torture camp prisoners when tried in civilian US courts, effectively remanding them to military tribunals, or nothing. It will be nothing... save endless detention, as a number of higher courts have already ruled that the inmates ARE ENTITLED to civilian trials.
The House also denied a $250 dollar Social Security raise for another kind of prisoner, financial prisoners of the US economy, America's Senior Citizens, who haven't seen an increase in their benefits for 2 years
The Obama Tax Deal will probably be voted on tomorrow, which again, will not help the poor, or fixed income members of a collapsing American economy.
Dick Cheney and seven other executives of Halliburton have been indicted in Nigeria for bribery in regard to the company's oil dealings there. Halliburton's subsidiary KBR has already paid fines in lieu of prosecution.

The weapons sale, which had been preceded by the arrival of 67 other tanks, reveals the extent of the arms buildup in Sudan prior to the Jan. 9 referendum that could divide the country in two. Even before the Faina was seized by pirates, the Ukrainian government had insisted to the United States that the arms shipments were meant for the Kenyan military. However, officials in the Bush administration appeared to believe otherwise - but did not appear particularly distresses that the weapons might be intended for southern Sudan. Some Democrats are refusing to surrender to president Obama's tax break deal and move to the economic right. In an unusual evening caucus yesterday the Blue Dog Democrats not unusually threatened to act like Republicans if the Progressive wing of the party forced changes to a bill that allows the rich to keep their tax breaks and allow the out-of-work to keep their unemployment, if they were ever even eligible.
...and if you're expecting employment... Good luck with that:
If you're a college student, DO note: "Unemployment Up Among College Graduates"... to the tune of 5.1%, the highest since 1970 when records were first kept.
After Friday's grim jobs data, which showed that the U.S. added just 39,000 net jobs in November, it's worth noting again just how severely the recession has impacted the job market.
This disturbing chart -- repeatedly referred to as "the scariest job chart ever" by Henry Blodget -- from Calculated Risk shows, in percentage terms, how the job market has failed to rebound at the rates seen after previous recessions. "This is by far the worst post-WWII employment recession," Calculated Risk notes.
With 15 million officially unemployed, the job situation may actually be worse than the headline figures. As HuffPost's Peter S. Goodman noted, some 17 percent of Americans couldn't find enough work or had given up looking for work in November. Among black Americans the unemployment rate hit 16 percent, compared to 9.8 percent nationally.
All of which makes it even more troubling that 4 million Americans are set to lose unemployment benefits even if Congress passes an extension to the 99-week limit, as HuffPost's Shahien Nasiripour reported last week. As millions of Americans lose a crucial source of income, the economy is sure to suffer as a result.
The social costs of a mass lapse in unemployment benefits could be even more devastating. "Look for homelessness to rise and food lines to get longer as we approach Christmas if the situation can't be resolved," Diane Swonk, chief economist at Mesirow Financial, told the AP. There's still a lot of federal legislation that has to happen soon... for instance appropriations bills for EVERY DEPARTMENT OF THE US GOVERNMENT which were supposed to be passed by the beginning of October are being held in abeyance, and at last years funding levels, by a short term Continuing Resolution.
President Obama also held a press conference yesterday. Obama admitted the US public was being held hostage by the millionaire interests and how he was not able to break the Republican on the issue of taxes. But he claimed there will be no quarter given in any future legislative battles.
Proving once again that real politics comes from the barrel of a gun.

The forces of Anonymous have taken aim at several companies who are refusing to do business with WikiLeaks. 4chan's hordes have launched distributed denial-of-service attacks against PayPal, Swiss bank PostFinance, and other sites that have hindered the whistleblowing site's operations.
A self-styled spokesman for the group calling himself "Coldblood" has said that any website that's "bowing down to government pressure" is a target. PayPal ceased processing donations to the site, and PostFinance froze WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's account.
The attacks are being performed under the Operation: Payback banner; Operation: Payback is the name the group is using in its long-running attacks on the RIAA, MPAA, and other organizations involved with anti-piracy lawsuits... [Continued]

British police arrested WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange today, after he showed up at a police station in London. His appearance had been previously arranged with authorities. He will appear in front of a court later today, where a magistrate will rule on his lawyers' request that he be freed on bail. The WikiLeaks Twitter feed wrote that the hearing is scheduled for 1:30 pm. Assange, who was arrested by Scotland Yard's extradition unit, faces charges of rape and sexual molestation in Sweden. Mark Stephens, Assange's lawyer in Britain, has previously argued that the request for extradition is meant to place pressure on Assange to halt WikiLeaks' release of over 250,000 U.S. diplomatic cables. WikiLeaks, however, said that Assange's arrest will not alter its plans to release the documents.The US government has warned students not to share wikileaks information OR LINK TO THEM, or it MIGHT interfere with a future career in government... State Department/Foreign Office personnel are also so warned for their current employment. Time Runs Short for Progress on Iran Nuke Talks By Barbara Slavin WASHINGTON, Dec 7, 2010 (IPS) - The first meeting between Iran and the world's major powers in more than a year ended Tuesday with little to show apart from a vague promise to meet again next month in Turkey. However, the disappointing results were expected – indeed predicted – by all sides before the two-day session in Geneva. • • • An October 2009 cable disclosed recently by Wikileaks quotes an unnamed U.S. diplomat as saying that IAEA chief Yukiya Amano of Japan is "solidly in the U.S. court on every key strategic decision". That contrasts with Amano's predecessor, Egyptian Mohamed ElBaradei, who often criticised the U.S. approach to Iran. It is not clear whether the Iranians brought up the comment at the Geneva meetings. Before the talks, U.S. officials had indicated that they had prepared a new version of a confidence-building measure that Iran had shown interest in a year ago. The plan would require Iran to send out large quantities of low-enriched uranium in return for fuel for a Tehran research reactor (TRR) that makes medical isotopes. The US economy may be decrepit, but there's money to burn! The Treasury Department apparently doesn't have the printing presses it needs to print the new more secure currency, and there have been literally more than a billion $100 dollar bills 'quarantined' due to flaws in the notes. There are misprints totaling $110 billion dollars... more than 10 percent of the whole US cash supply, cost approximately $120 million dollars to print, and they will have to be burned.
According to uninformed sources, America's money manufacturing needs will be outsourced to resolve the issue.

The Wikileaks saga continues with the founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange' 'sex charges' in Sweden hanging legal fire as Switzerland potentially offers him asylum for apparently not wearing a condom while playing around with a woman who has had a history of working with the CIA and it's Cuban-American henchmen and if you're considering a career in US Foreign Service the State Department seems to be trying to scare off college students from reposting wikileaks cables at their Facebook pages, warning them it could harm their future job prospects with the government."
Also, adding to the intrigue, Wikileaks' Assange has claimed if he's arrested he has information about a number of banks (including Bank of America) that has already been released en masse, in encrypted form, and the encryption code will be publicly released if he's arrested. On the other hand, a lawyer for WikiLeaks founder said he and his client were arranging to meet British police.
Proposition 8 goes before the 9th Circuit Court today in regard to whether any of the Same-Sex marriage opponents have "Standing"... In other words, whether they have the right to oppose the voter passed law at all. A few other sidebar issues will be discussed as well.

On Capitol Hill, the House went ahead and passed a tax cut for those in the $250,000 down income tax category with three Republicans jumping ship. The White House and Democrats are apparently intending to, have been coerced into, retaining the tax cuts for the rich, but may get the Unemployment Benefit Extension they want along with tax credits for individual taxpayers in the lower income bracket.
They also managed to save the US government from going insolvent last night using a two week Continuing Resolution. In those two weeks they'll need to pass THIRTEEN appropriations bills to keep the government running... which they won't... so expect them to haggle over ANOTHER Continuing Resolution.... soon.
Worse torture than Vogon poetry - The House ethics committee failed to reduce congressman Charles Rangel's ethics charge sentence from censure to reprimand, and so Rangel's convictions were upheld and he had to listen to Nancy Pelosi read a list of his 'crimes'... including his non-oped car parked for too long in the Congressional garage.
Nigeria has issued an international arrest warrant with former US Vice President Dick Cheney's name on it for bribery regarding oil field deals. This case has been six years in the making, unlike the warrant which came out of nowhere for Julian Assange of WikiLeaks in regard to a couple of women who claim they were raped. The British authorities should be able to act on the warrant by today, but will Assange still be in the country?
A number of countries, including Ecuador, a nation quite grateful for the CableGate exposure of the Pentagon's SOUTHCOM command's misdeeds in the region, have offered Assange asylum, and leading US human rights lawyers Leonard Weinglass and Michael Ratner have joined the defense team for Julian Assange and Wikileaks.. Killer Space Drones? The X-37B Spaceplane, a former NASA project later developed by Boeing and sent up by the CIA last April landed at Vandenberg AFB early this morning California time. Payload and purpose... Unknown. Even where the vehicle's mission control center is located remains classified.

We've finished our naval maneuvers and exercises in the Yellow Sea with the South Koreans, and now the George Washington Naval Task Group has departed for Japan, where it's going to operate the largest exercise in the East Pacific since WWII with the Japanese and the South Koreans invited to observe.
But it's a MUCH larger issue when it comes to the oceans, and Asia, as the U.S. draws a line in the sea.

FRANKFURT, Germany, July 26 (UPI) -- The unprecedented and solemn warning that U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton delivered to Beijing last week over its territorial ambitions in the South China Sea needs to be considered within three separate contexts.
This is because, as Harvard Professor (and former assistant secretary of defense in the Clinton administration) Joseph Nye maintains, relations between great powers are like a game of chess in three dimensions. There is the military equation, the economic equation and the separate but related dimension of cultural influence. Nye calls it "soft power," the ability of a great power not to force other countries to do its will but to get them "to want what you want."
So when Clinton infuriated Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi at the ASEAN regional forum last week by asserting that the resolution of disputes over the South China Sea to be in the United States' "national interest" all three equations came into play.
China has already played the military card, by establishing military outposts in the Paracel and Spratly islands, despite competing claims from Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. China has in recent months raised the stakes over the South China Sea, declaring a unilateral fishing ban and staging repeated naval and amphibious exercises and missile tests. Vietnam in turn has announced purchases of Russian-build Kilo-class submarines.
The economic issue is central, because of the indications that this vast tract of sea contains large oil and gas reserves... [In Full]
ALL Republican senators go on strike, in defense of the wealthy... - Yesterday all of the Republicans in the Senate signed a letter to the majority leader saying they will filibuster or otherwise interfere with EVERY SINGLE THING brought to the floor until the Bush era tax extension debate is resolved.
Interpol has issued an arrest warrant for Wikileaks founder Julian Assange who is currently believed to be somewhere in the vicinity of London England. But the British courts say the Swedish warrant, for an alleged rape that was already investigated and dropped once, has 'paper problems'. Assange is known to be welcome in a number of European countries that would glady tell the Swedes where to put their 'papers'.

The House is working on the Bush era's tax cut extension and it will go into conference now for a day or two. Some Congressional Democrats think the White House will give in to the Republicans demands for an extension of all the Bush administration's tax cuts.
This may indicate what the new House leadership thinks of the Parliamentary process - The Senate has decided to remove the office of the House Parliamentarian and turn it into a, more convenient to the seventy one female members, bathroom.
Regarding the Bush era tax cuts...
It was, and still is, a SWELL time to be REALLY RICH
...and was (and still is) a LOUSY time to be POOR or UNEMPLOYED.

Let's be honest: you'll never win the lottery.
On the other hand, the chances are pretty good that you'll slave away at some miserable job the rest of your life. That's because you were in all likelihood born into the wrong social class. Let's face it -- you're a member of the working caste. Sorry!
As a result, you don't have the education, upbringing, connections, manners, appearance, and good taste to ever become one of us. In fact, you'd probably need a book the size of the yellow pages to list all the unfair advantages we have over you. That's why we're so relieved to know that you still continue to believe all those silly fairy tales about "justice" and "equal opportunity" in America.
Of course, in a hierarchical social system like ours, there's never been much room at the top to begin with. Besides, it's already occupied by us -- and we like it up here so much that we intend to keep it that way. But at least there's usually someone lower in the social hierarchy you can feel superior to and kick in the teeth once in a while. Even a lowly dishwasher can easily find some poor slob further down in the pecking order to sneer and spit at. So be thankful for migrant workers, prostitutes, and homeless street people.
Always remember that if everyone like you were economically secure and socially privileged like us, there would be no one left to fill all those boring, dangerous, low-paid jobs in our economy. And no one to fight our wars for us, or blindly follow orders in our totalitarian corporate institutions. And certainly no one to meekly go to their grave without having lived a full and creative life. So please, keep up the good work! [There's more...]
Now, Today's News...
As of today more than 2 million unemployed Americans are at risk as the Republicans manage to block an unemployment benefit extension built into the Unemployment Insurance Stabilization Act leaving workers in the lurch this holiday season. On the OTHER HAND... The Senate also failed to ban earmarks... Meaning their WELFARE PLAN FOR CORPORATE 'FRIENDS' who donate to their campaigns will continue.
The Food Safety bill passed and it will give the FDA more food inspection privileges, puts new responsibilities on farmers and food companies to prevent contamination, and also gives the FDA power to oversee the safety standards regarding imported products. The White House met with the leaders of both parties yesterday and they agreed to have more meetings, but No Deal. Just so you know... Republican Leader Mitch McConnell said they oppose any policy of leaving tax cuts in place for middle class people while raising rates for the wealthy.
The Don't Ask Don't Tell commission released it's report yesterday and almost all parties to the report seem to think there are no problems with open service for gays.
A second try by the Federal Cat Food Commission, formally known as the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform is still producing no reasonable results even as two dozen Conservative leaders plead with the Republican leadership to cut the Defense Budget... that's desperation.
Kamala Harris, San Francisco District Attorney, has declared victory in the California state Attorney General race under Governor-elect Jerry Brown making her the first woman, AND first minority person to hold the state's top law enforcement post. Harris said she will focus on reducing the state's tragically high inmate recidivism rate, and prosecuting environmental and white-collar crimes.
