In The News: H/t to ChrisM my MP3Angel for supplying the audio files.
[After the commentary, a short current news item appropriate for the commentary. Then... got RAGE? Rage Against The Machine. Zack del la Rocha and Rage Against the Machine want to speak with you about the police, and what they do... Brought to us by the respective artists and Skidmark Bob @ PoP dEFECT Radio, where you can find the one hour RATM special he aired in February this clip was drawn from.]
«o»Texas Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry has a solution to the "Jobs Issue". "Drill Baby Drill" will be his method of job creation if elected, including the gutting of oversight agencies like the EPA.
«o»There are now thirteen hundred #Occupies. The one in Denver got cleared out last night by the police. Apparently the Zuccotti Park protesters in New York are maintaining their ground right in the face of an attempt to clear it for 'cleaning' right now but expect a lot of police activity over the next little while... throughout the US.
For what it's worth though, if Mayor Bloomberg is so interested in 'cleaning parks', why doesn't he start with the Bronx?
«o»Dominique Strauss-Kahn the former head of the IMF and possible presidential candiate in France will not have rape charges filed against him, this time by a woman journalist, although the court did admit sexual harassment and predatory behavior. The charges in civil court by a New York hotel maid are still outstanding.
«o»US drone strikes have killed six more people in Waziristan. Current statistics according to a U.S. study indicate that eight civilians are killed for every alleged insurgent. A much lower ratio than Pakistan's study a year or so ago which indicated fifty civilians killed for every alleged combatant or 'terrorist'.
«o»Yesterday the House of Representatives showed us side they're on... again. They passed a ban on federal funding for abortions, which was already on the books but they wanted to reinforce the fact they don't care about the health and welfare of women so they re-vote on that law every couple of years.
One more piece, about the US State Department, the US economy, and war:
Hillary Clinton to lay out her “doctrine on economic statecraft” in New York speech Friday
By Laura Rozen | The Envoy – October 13 2011
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will give a major address on her vision for economic statecraft in New York Friday. In the address--which The Envoy exclusively previewed last week--Clinton will lay out what her aides say she sees as a major strategic legacy of her tenure as Secretary of State: a doctrine calling on the U.S. diplomatic corps to make advancing United States economic interests a central mission of the U.S. diplomatic agenda. o o o And as Clinton lays out that vision in more detail, she will stress two main bulwarks. First, she will highlight the need to advance relations with the wider world as part of the effort to revive the American domestic economic order. And second, she will stress that State Department diplomats and foreign policy thinkers need to work harder to understand how market forces are driving first-order national security challenges in hot spots such as Afghanistan, Iraq and Iran... [In Full]
That COULD BE construed to mean our lifestyle drives our '...national security challenges..." considering that one of the major 'market forces' is... you and I, and what we are told we need, convinced by clever psychologically/neurologically designed advertising of what we want.
"If these protestors could just operate within a predetermined set of guidelines and conform to traditional modes of discourse while respecting all parties involved I think we could really obfuscate this movement to the point of uselessness and get on with business as usual." ~~Anonymous Cynic on #OccupyWallStreet
