Thanks this morning to ChrisM, my MP3Angel, for supplying the news and commentary audio files.
» Osama bin-Laden, his three wives and and assortment of children had been sitting around a house for five or six years smoking Hash and making plans for attacks on the West... We now have all the notes. If you're fluent in Arabic or Pashtun the Western intel agencies want you. If not... Listen to the commentary for more and you MIGHT want to peruse my un-indicted co-conspirator Auntie Imperial's posting: "Osama Bin-Laden - Not The First In A Long History Of Pot-Smoking Terrorists" for some deeeeep history of drugs and terror.
» The president will be at Fort Campbell Kentucky today where he'll 'meet the troops' as well as meeting the SEAL team who killed Osama bin Laden... Due to security, no word on where or exactly when that meet is supposed to occur.
» The July deadline for the beginning of America's withdrawal from Afghanistan is approaching and protesters in the country are demonstrating in the streets claiming that 'president' Karzai's negotiations with the Talib are endangering the nation. Expect this story to be 'spun' as anti-Taliban protests by Western media but the demonstrations are more likely occurring because the protesters believe if Karzai continues negotiating with the Talib the US will continue it's presence there... If that is the protesters reasoning they ARE simply wrong... The United States will continue it's presence in some military form or another until it is actually driven out of the country by arms (or U.S. national bankruptcy). Just ask the Iraqis, where our "Withdrawal" has left 100,000 troops or so in-country plus countless mercenaries.
» In the wake of the killing of Osama bin-Laden there are reports that al-Qaeda planned attacks on the US railroad system for the tenth anniversary of 9/11. These alleged planned attacks have NOT necessarily been foiled by the CIA mercenary recruiter's death so expect major hassles, from the need to present current complete ID, to total body cavity searches if you set off the metal and explosive detectors because you forgot to take off your watch or have a spare firecracker in your pocket left over from the 4th of July.
» The Republicans are beginning to back off on their MediCare cuts position but Paul Ryan, the Republican Speaker of the House who proposed the draconian budget and got it passed says it's not true, and whined about the Town Hall meetings where he claims Republicans were harassed about their callousness toward Senior Citizens and the disabled. Tsk Tsk.
» Seven hundred miles of the Middle Mississippi River (Memphis Tn North) are beginning to flood with a peak expected next week. The high water mark will be close to 50 feet above flood level. A new record if it occurs, with the record peak flood stage having been set in 1937.
» The workers at the Fukushima EX-nuclear reactor in Japan have gained entry to the reactor area. First step... Cooling systems for the building and filtration to bring the radiation level down.
In OTHER News:
As reported a month or so ago at Cabale News Service... Fed up with Phoenix' hold over Arizona's politics, ethics and morals, Tucson (Pima County) talks secession from the late not-so-great-state of Arizona... It's been brewing for a century or so.
Just like India and various other governments informed the U.S. of the whereabouts of ANOTHER wanted EX-CIA asset (India offered to turn him over to the CIA because of their covert war with Pakistan and were told the CIA wasn't interested.), AQ Khan the Pakistani nuclear boogeyman known as the "Father of the Islamic Atomic Bomb", the intelligence and assistance we allegedly needed was ignored in our global "pursue and destroy" mission to capture ONE FORMER CIA MERCENARY RECRUITER.
Pakistan alerted US about compound in 2009: Bashir
Incidentally, in regard to who gave safety & support to whom, I've seen all kinds of reference to the money sewn into bin-Laden's clothing, but it's continually being referred to as "The equivalent of [enter the currency of the media's home country here]", and I've found no reference to the actual denomination of the currency.
It WOULD speak volumes about where he thought his 'escape hatch' exited, wouldn't it?
From CQ Behind The Lines... Some links to follow the money by: While Osama bin Laden's demise doesn't alter the threat, some experts say it's time, particularly amid a severe U.S. budget crunch, to determine if vast homeland security programs are bloated, redundant or unnecessary, McClatchy Newspapers' Greg Gordon and Marisa Taylor write. According to a new academic paper, the "... the increased cost of post-9/11 security measures can only be economically justified if we were certain that, absent those measures, one 9/11-style attack would succeed each year, The Economist adds and check CNN's Charles Riley, as well, on the bin Laden spending spree.
Meanwhile, the bin-Laden family survivors are being interviewed by Pakistani authorities who say the US WILL NOT get automatic access to the NON-Combatants.
An unexpected ray of intelligence from an American basketball player leads to a war of flames and threats over a series of twitter tweets. Basketball player Chris Douglas-Roberts' commented on Twitter about the bin-Laden assassination:
"Is this a celebration? Is this the beginning of a huge religious war? It took 919,967 deaths to kill that one guy. It took 10 years and two wars to kill that guy. It cost us (USA) roughly $1,188,263,000,000 to kill that guy. But we #winning though. Haaaa. (Sarcasm)." [More]This commenter must say Chris Douglas-Roberts is one cool cookie... from the linked article:
A follower of Douglas-Roberts responded, @CDOUGLASROBERTS of course it's a f------ celebration,moron....he killed nearly 3,000 AmericansAmen.
Douglas-Roberts replied, I'm the moron. Are you a Christian. Would God be happy with you celebrating death? Or is your religion, 'American'?
Last but certainly not least, a Libya Sitrep from Voltairenet who forward this:
Report to the Security Council by the Special Envoy to Libya
3 May 2011
Mr. Abdel-Elah Mohamed Al-Khatib: I thank the Security Council for this opportunity to brief it once again on the situation in Libya and on my continuous efforts to establish and maintain a dialogue with all sides concerned on implementing resolutions 1970 (2011) and 1973 (2011). Let me start by highlighting the latest significant developments in Libya.
Most recently, intense fighting has expanded into the south and west of the country. Heavy fighting has continued between pro-Al-Qadhafi troops and the opposition forces in the western region, the Western Mountains and Nalut district, including the cities of Yafran and Zintan, as well as in the south-eastern part of the country, including Kufra and Jalu.
Fighting has broken out in the Western Mountains. As a result, clashes spilled over into the eastern Tunisian city of Dehiba during attempts by pro-Al-Qadhafi and opposition forces to control the key border post on either side of the Libyan-Tunisian frontier, the Dehiba-Wazin border crossing. The Tunisian army has strengthened its positions on the southern border with Libya. Thousands of ethnic Berbers have fled from Libya into Tunisia. In the remote south-eastern corner of the country, the regime forces have allegedly advanced and seized control of the town of Kufra. Furthermore, pro-Al-Qadhafi forces stormed the oasis town of Jalu, south of Ajdabiya, on Sunday, 1 May... [In Full]
(...and try not to let your government kill too many 'dusky natives' in the process OK?)
