Hillary Clinton is in Yemen trying to persuade the Yemeni government to be nice to the locals because the locals MAY know where Osama bin Laden is. It's likely to be a hard sell, and Yemen's citizenry is the second most heavily armed nation in the world, with America Numero Uno!
Vice President Joe Biden is in Afghanistan and then going to Pakistan. Biden, a "critic" of our involvement in the region has met with 'president' Hamid Karzai, and representatives of the Afghan security and military apparatus bearing the question: "How long will it be till your people are trained to shoot at the people WE want them to shoot at, so we can leave?"
Jared Lee Loughner, the disturbed 22 year old from Arizona who attempted to assassinate congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was in court for 17 min yesterday to hear 5 counts including 2 potentially garnering him the death penalty. He answered a couple of questions and appears at least coherent, if not cognizant of his actions.
Speaking of "coherent, if not cognizant", In Colorado the authorities have arrested a 40 year old man who was having problems with his Social Security. He threatened to burn the office of Senator Bennet and shoot his staff.
He won't see a jail cell in his lifetime... Former Senator Tom Delay has been sentenced on his conviction for money laundering and attempting to influence Texas elections. He got three years and ten on parole, out of a possible life sentence.
The US embassy has suggested that all American citizens leave the Ivory Coast in light of the spiraling-out-of-control violence surrounding the November 28 presidential elections. The sitting president Laurent Gbagbo, who lost the election, is refusing to give up his post. Meanwhile, 25,000 Ivorian refugees are on the move...
