In The News:

Thanks this morning to ChrisM, my MP3Angel, for supplying the news and commentary audio files.
» The Republicans had their pay-to-vote straw poll over the weekend in Ames Iowa for the presidential contenders from their party and Michelle Bachmann got a six thousand plus vote majority of the approximately seventeen thousand total votes available, with Ron Paul just two hundred votes behind... accruing the two approximately 14,000 votes. At that point Tim Pawlenty dropped out of the presidential race. Newt Gingrich and the others ran in the single digits. Next is the Republican Caucus in January.

» President Obama is on a "magic bus" trip to Minnesota, Iowa and Illinois to speak with the citizens of those states, then off to Marthas Vineyard for a vacation. If you're expecting the president to create jobs for Americans you might note Marthas Vineyard is well know for running it's summer tourism trade on Dominican Republic immigrant workers.

» Rebels in the Western part of Libya are making gains and have managed to hold ground in the port and crossroads town of Zawiya, thirty miles from Tripoli, against government forces. The Libyan government has notified the residents of Tripoli to prepare for fighting.

» Reports say Syrian government artillery has barraged the city of Latakia on the coast but the government adamantly denies it. There are 4 other cities under siege despite the fact that it's Ramadan and it's not Sharia-like (ie. Kosher) to make war during the time, but the Baathists are secular Muslims and their religious doctrines match the needs of the state... just like America and it's 'Christian' churches who casually gave new meaning to 'thou shalt not kill' when they ALL (including synagogues) re-defined 'kill' as 'murder' allowing the US government to draft without recourse American Jews and Christians for the Vietnam war.

» In Iraq five different cities are under attack by Shiite elements in the run up to the government's decision whether or not to allow US troops to remain in country past December. If they decide to do so, the leader of the Shiite majority in the country, Muqtada al-Sadr has vowed immediate and full scale war... Something the West is not very good at. In light of the recent purchase of thirty five or so F-16 fighter jets by Iraq from the US, it's unlikely the US will leave them without US protective forces... connect the dots. War.

From Foreign Policy Magazine:
At least 70 people were killed and dozens more wounded in a series of terrorist attacks throughout Iraq on Monday. The attacks shattered a period of relative calm that had descended during the Ramadan holiday.

In the worst incident, two bombs exploded in a crowded jewelry market in the city of Kut, killing 35. Bombs also exploded in Kirkuk and Baghdad, Tikrit, Najaf and Baquba. Gunmen also targeted leaders of the Sons of Iraq movement in Diyala province.

Interior Minister officials have banned street parking in the cities targeted, fearing more attacks.

Iraq is currently debating whether to ask U.S. troops to remain in the country past a December deadline. [In Full]
» In Lahore Pakistan a US aid contractor, Warren Weinstein, has been kidnapped.
Mr Weinstein was working as the Pakistan country director of Virginia-based development company J.E. Austin Associates. He described his work as supervising a four-year $11 million “competitiveness project”, funded by the American government, which was involved in dairy, horticulture, furniture, and medical equipment projects. Meanwhile, in Afghanistan:
A group of six Taliban suicide attackers fought their way into the Parwan provincial governor's compound Sunday north of Kabul, killing at least 22 people before the attackers were subdued (NYT, AJE, Tel, AFP, WSJ, Post, BBC, Reuters, AP). The militants, who detonated a car bomb at the compound's entrance before storming in, struck as governor Abdul Basir Salangi, a former insurgent commander who fought Soviet forces and an ally of Afghan president Hamid Karzai, was meeting with officials to discuss the security situation in the province. In OTHER News:

If you commute in the Bay Area of San Francisco, BART MIGHT be running a little slow in the evening rush as "Anonymous" plans to hold a demonstration at the Civic Center station in response to BART having shut off cell phone relay service from their platforms and other facilities for three critical hours last week attempting to disrupt a planned protest of a slew of shooting by BART police of unarmed civilians.

It's notable that BART Police ARE NOT like New York and Boston Transit Police... Full fledged members of a well-trained municipal police force, but are hired, and work for, BART. They are basically glorified ARMED Guards on public patrol. Over the weekend, Anonymous committed "Black Fax Bomb" and other computer based attacks on BART's website... Leading to the theft of BART's user database with name, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of many employees and BART users. That list of users is public.

More here: Anonymous punishes BART - defaces website, leaks user data and here: BART Calls In Feds After Hack Exposes User Info, Another Cell Block Possible For Protest Monday.

National Lawyers Guild lawyers will be standing by at the protest today in the event of arrests to supply legal assistance.

If you potentially need that assistance, the hotline information is Here.

This is Razer Raygun saying 'Happy Motoring America...' Enjoy it while you can.
