The Republicans take control of the House to a huge Gala banquet and reception with all their lobbyist friends, and the Lobbyists apparently picked up the tab (they surely will in the long run). They also had a prayer ceremony with Chief Justice Roberts in attendance, who then swore in the new Speaker of the House.
In the Senate, there will be a token opening session and then a two week recess as the battle lines get drawn over filibuster rules. Will there be filibustering of the filibuster hearings?

The cost of fuel in Kabul has gone up 70% in recent days... Crippling transport around the country including the US military's ability to buy fuel locally and is further destroying the region's atmospheric environment due to the Iranian's hurried use of "High Aromatic Gasoline
Jerry Brown, the new governor of California, is about to present his budget plan to reduce the TWENTY EIGHT BILLION DOLLARS in red ink on the state's account with a unique proposal. The returning and transferring of some state-run programs back to the cities and counties with their portion of the budget, leaving Sacramento free of the management responsibilities, but not the counties and municipalities which will have additional agencies and departments to manage the transferred programs. (Razer notes this could easily be fixed by laying off the state bureaucrats who handled the programs and transferring THAT money as well.)
