In The News: NATO Airstrikes in Afghanistan have apparently killed a number of Khyber Pass convoy ambushers who were stealing fuel trucks. "NATO airstrikes on a pair of hijacked fuel tankers killed up to 90 people", no word yet on how many were civilians, and don't expect that info from NATO any time soon, but it is claimed that they are "...investigating reports that the dead may have included dozens of civilians"

The Talib don't have much in the way of motor transport...

Taliban Toyota (You Asked For It, You Got It)

As a matter of fact automobiles are a rarity in country.
This is how the Afghanis transported their national elections ballots for counting...

...so it must be an "enemy deprival" tactic (because Western forces use HUGE amounts of fuel every second), and perhaps for sale and use as a heating fuel supply for their tribal kin in the bitter cold Afghan winters.

In the 'scorekeeping' department, 504 Americans have died so far in our war on Afghanistan, it's society, and culture.

In Kabul, the US has moved US State Department Inspector General personnel into the embassy compound where the ArmourGroup Mercs had been having wild parties.

It begs the question... First, why hasn't this already been investigated? Reports had been showing up at State since 2007! Second, What IS Wackenhut doing protecting US facilities in war zones? Don't they derive enough income running the private prison gulags for the prison-industrial complex around the police state the United States has become in the wake of 9/11?

Geo (Wackenhut) Private Prison
(See the article: "Private Prisons Own New Mexico" for more on financial corruption and 'outsourcing' of state prison services)

More Wackenhut 'wackiness' of the job performance and financial corruption persuasion: "Wackenhut was the target of charges it fraudulently overbilled Miami-Dade Transit (and the Juvenile Detention Center) for work its security officers did not do." It's apparently also time to check their State Department work at a corporate ethics level

Honduras is out of the money honey... Secretary of State Clinton FINALLY announces MOST US aid to the country is canceled until further notice. There's still approximately 135 million dollars in agricultural and transportation aid yet to be disbursed or canceled however.

America is running out of money too!
At least it's citizens, who comprise the tax base for national spending:

"The unemployment rate hit 9.7 percent in August, up from 9.4 percent in July." AND "Underemployment also rose in August, with another 298,000 workers involuntarily working part-time... with a labor market that is still weakening."

Sacramento police arrested about 10 homeless residents at their "safe ground" campsite this morning, including two advocates for the homeless.

Sister Libby Fernandez and Rev. David Moss, a Methodist Minister, were taken into custody along with other campers, charged with illegal camping, Sacramento police Sgt. Norm Leong said.

In space, everything is cooool... The space junk that used to be an Ariane 5 rocket will (or has) passed within 2 miles of the International Space Station. The work on the station continues with an ammonia tank, part of the station's cooling system, installed.

News of US troop deployments... The 82nd Airborne is going to do 14 months, an extra 50 days in Afghanistan (and the 3rd Combat Aviation Aviation Brigade an extra 14 days)to allow replacement troops, the 101st Airborne, to finish out their out-of-theatre R&R now required by Secretary of Defense Gates. There is also going to be a request by general McChrystal for 48,000 more troops (20,000 according to The Australian in an article entitled: "US surge likely in Afghan conflict", the NY Times, 10,000 - 45,000) in our Afghanistan war.

More bad news for the California fishing industry and the people who depend on fishing for their income. California Fish and Game has canceled the Herring season in San Francisco Bay due to depleted stocks.
