In The News:
Thanks this morning to ChrisM, my MP3Angel, for supplying the news and commentary audio files.
» The generals will be unhappy President Obama has apparently made a decision to override his generals who wanted 30,000 troops to remain behind in Iraq after the end of the year. The generals had 'compromised' and said 10,000 would be 'sufficient' but the target set by the administration has been announced as 3,000... training troops only, with the Iraqis taking care of their own security.
» Meanwhile the US government is still waiting for a decision by the Iraqis as to whether they'll allow any troops to remain after the end of the year at all. If they decide in the affirmative expect those remaining US troops to come under attack from the Mehdi Army under the command of Muqtada al-Sadr almost immediately, and despite what Condi Rice claimed a few years ago... He is not a "coward" in the American vernacular, or in any way that any soldier in the world understands the word. Complicating that picture. The Kurds are asking the US to leave troops as security for their Autonomous Region.
» The Turkish government has pulled their diplomats out of Israel and closed their embassy in protest of Israel's killing of nine Turkish sailors during an Israeli raid on a Gaza Freedom Flotilla civilian vessel which the U.N. has just decided was an undue use of force. The Turkish navy, which is part of NATO, is also going to begin patrolling the Eastern Mediterranean off the coast of Gaza, Israel, and Lebanon, which creates a bit of a rift in that organization, already torn with dissent due to the former cold war allies involvement in Libya.
» President Obama will be on the podium tomorrow evening with a Jobs Speech the Republicans may consider a bit confrontational.
» I'll bet you didn't know they had an Air Force... Probably suitable for strafing unprotected civilians on the ground and not much else. The Yemeni Air Force is going after a rebel stronghold in the South of the country leading to this ugly incident:
Yemeni air force jets have targeted an al-Qaeda stronghold town in the south of the country, killing seven civilians and wounding three others when they mistakenly struck a mosque, according to a local official.
Jaar, home to around 30,000 people, lies 12km north of Abyan province's capital Zinjibar, most of which was seized in May by Partisans of Sharia, an organisation that has links with al-Qaeda.
"The Yemeni air force accidentally shelled a mosque in Jaar, killing seven people and wounding five others," the official told the AFP news agency, on condition of anonymity, describing Monday's assault.
"The air force hit the Grand Mosque in Jaar whereas the target was a small mosque held by suspected al-Qaeda militants", situated on the edge of the town.
A medical official in Al-Razi hospital in Jaar confirmed the toll and witnesses said that another raid targeted the hospital, wounding two more people. [In Full]
Remember... Capitalism is holding a loaded gun...
...And the target is you.
(And PLEASE try to keep your government from killing all the dusky natives...)
